Members of the County Assembly of Tharaka Nithi held a consultative meeting on the County Spatial Plan at the Assembly offices in Kathwana on 13 October 2026.

The meeting was led by Majority Leader Hon. Justin Kithinji and Hon. Fatuma Murungi, Vice-Chair of the Assembly Committee on Lands and Physical Planning. It formed part of the Assembly’s consideration of the proposed County Spatial Plan.

The County Spatial Plan is a long-term, 10-year framework intended to guide the use, development and conservation of land and other resources across the county. It sets out a spatial vision to guide where growth should take place, where infrastructure should be prioritised, and which areas may require protection because of cultural, environmental or hazard-related considerations.

Also in attendance were a University of Nairobi team that supported the county planning team in developing the plan, led by Dr. Silas Muketha, and Tharaka Nithi County Director of Physical and Land Use Planning, Mr. Duncan Mwenda.
