The Supplementary Budget has been hailed as one championing development in crucial Ministries such as those of roads, health and youth.
While moving the Motion on the approval of the Tharaka Nithi County Supplementary Budget estimates, the Assembly Budget and Appropriations Chair and the honourable member for Karingani Godfrey Murithi Gaturo, pointed out the Supplementary Budget factored in payment of pending bills to contractors for continuity of projects.
“Allocations toward hiring more instructors for our vocation training centres is another win for the people as our youth will get instructors for various courses” he added.
Speaking during the sitting Gatunga member of County Assembly Honourable Salvestas Mugao said as members of the County Assembly, they are mandated to represent the people and protect their interests.
“For the interests of our people the 30 million allocated for bursaries and for the need of money to complete ongoing projects and the over Ksh 200 million allocated for roads, I agree with the document” said the member for Gatunga ward.
The Deputy Speaker, who is also the Nkondi ward, MCA Hon Leonard Gitonga Jackson was in support of the Motion, especially on the increased funding towards the improvement of road networks.
‘When roads are graded and murramed, they last longer and are of service to the people”, the Nkondi ward MCA added. The Deputy Speaker stressed the need for committing funds towards bettering the working facilities and conditions for workers at various cess-points across the County.
Chogoria MCA Honourable Frankline Mawira, who chairs the Assembly committee on Youth, Sports, Culture and Social Services said that the recommendations the committee gave on funds being allocated towards development have been captured, adding he was in support of the Supplementary Budget.
Mariani MCA Hon Anita Karimi noted that the Supplementary Budget has allocated more resources for development, which will be beneficial to the people of Tharaka Nithi.
“I was elected to serve the people of Mariani and the people of Tharaka Nithi and this March 11, 2025TNCA 2 budget has given us an increase of Kshs 168 million towards development. Other than roads, I am hopeful bridges or drifts will be constructed in Mariani, as well as completion of boreholes.”
Ganga ward MCA Hon Lysbeth Gatiria contributing to the Motion said Ganga ward stands to get its first tarmac ever through the passing of this supplementary budget as well as upgrade of Ngeru dispensary, a win for her people.
Majority leader and Mukothima MCA Hon Luke Nyaga Marengo lauded members for the work they have put into passing the supplementary budget, giving the County the mandate to deliver for its people.
The County Assembly of Tharaka Nithi also today approved the County Fiscal Strategy Paper, 2025.
The County Fiscal Strategy Paper is the guide to the county budget process as it looks at how the past and the present setting of the budget process can inform the future. It sets out the broad strategic priorities and policy goals that will guide the County Government in preparing its budget for the coming financial year and over the medium term.
The County Fiscal Strategy Paper, sets out the sector ceilings that represent the budget limits. The ceilings determine the amount of money allocated to each sector and how the money is distributed across these sectors.
