THARAKA NITHI ASSEMBLY RESUMES SITTING ON 11th FEB 2025 UNNAONIMOULSY......
The Tharaka County Assembly today resumed sittings after the long December recess. The County Assembly, sitting at the Kathwana Chamber today, unanimously approved the Resolution of the County Assembly Service Board to appoint Mr. Paul Mwenda Thirika to perform the functions of the clerk of the County Assembly.
This is in line with the stipulations of Section (13) of the County Governments Act No. 17 of 2012, Section (17), (19), and (20) of the County Assembly Service Act No. 24 of 2017, the Tharaka Nithi County Assembly Standing Orders as well as the Tharaka Nithi County Assembly Schemes of Service.
Hon. Risper Gakii, while moving the Motion, noted that Mr. Thirika had a proven track record during his time working with the County Assembly where he had risen to the position of the Deputy clerk in charge of legislative services. Mr. Thirika’s appointment takes effect immediately. While seconding the Motion, Hon. Nevert Ntwiga, popularly known as Hon. Kinuthia, of Mitheru ward, noted that the County Assembly had never had a substantive clerk from Tharaka Nithi. He added that he was proud that a son of Tharaka Nithi had risen to head the Tharaka Nithi County Assembly service.
The County Assembly also expressed its appreciation to the Parliamentary Service Commission for seconding Mr. Amos Kiangwe Sikweya to the Service of the County Assembly while also appreciating Mr. Amos Kiangwe Sikweya’s exemplary service during his time as the Clerk of the County Assembly. Hon. Godfrey Muchiri of Karingani ward, while thanking Mr. Sikweya for his service, noted that Mr. Sikweya had been appointed as the Assembly Clerk at a time when the Assembly was facing challenges and had led the Assembly to overcome them.
The County Assembly in the same sitting approved members to serve in various House committees and approved the Assembly calendar for the Fourth session.
